The staff and volunteers at AFS educate caregivers and the public on various components of Alzheimer's disease including the stages of the illness, behavioral techniques, and general expectations for individual and family dynamics. In addition to one-on-one and group educational settings, AFS offers:
- Presentations, Health Fairs, and Seminars
In 2008, AFS conducted presentations for 690 attendees; provided 17 Alzheimer's trainings, and offered Crisis Intervention Training to more than 140 local first responders so they could identify the symptoms of an Alzheimer's patient and how best to respond to challenging behaviors.
- Resource Library
About 250 pieces comprise the AFS Resource Library, located in Pensacola. Books, pamphlets, and videos offer a wide range of topics such as caregiving issues, grief and loss, and suggested activites for Alzheimer's patients.
- Newsletter
Distributing over 19,000 copies a year, The Caring Times serves as a continuous venue for AFS to communicate significant changes in Alzhimer's disease and treatment options, caregiver support, and organizational opportunities.
