AFS expands services to Alabama 

Alzheimer’s Family Services (AFS) expands services to Alabama, offering monthly support groups for caregivers and screenings to assess for memory loss.

 

Brewton and Atmore, AL  – Alzheimer’s Family Services (AFS) – an affiliate of Covenant Hospice and based in Northwest Florida – now provides services in Escambia County, Alabama. Family members caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias now have access to Alzheimer’s Support Groups, Memory Screens, and a monthly informational newsletter The Caring Times.

 

Support Groups provide emotional support and education for family and friends that have been affected by someone with Alzheimer’s disease. Two (2) new support groups begin in August; they are as follows:

 

Brewton Alzheimer’s Support Group

Location: Covenant Hospice – Brewton Office (located at 1023 Douglas Ave.)

Date/Time: 3rd Tues of the month (Aug 19) at 10:30am

Exception: the first support group on Aug 19 will be held at 2:30pm

                                                        

Atmore Alzheimer’s Support Group

Location: Atmore Community Hospital (located at 401 Medical Park Drive)  

Date/Time: 3rd Wed. of the month (Aug 20) at 2:00pm

 

Memory Screens are a means to provide early detection of memory loss and/or cognitive impairment. They are a standardized test which takes about 15-20 minutes and results are provided immediately. Appointments are required. Memory Screens in Alabama will be held:

           

            Brewton

Location: McMillan Hospital (located at 1301 Belleville Ave)

Date/Time: Thurs., Aug 14 from 12:00-3:30pm

 

Atmore

Location: Atmore Community Hospital (located at 401 Medical Park Drive) 

Date/Time: Friday, Aug 29 from 12:00pm-3:30pm  

 

  

The Caring Times, a monthly newsletter, shares information and techniques that aid caregivers in coping and managing their loved one affected with Alzheimer’s disease.
