  • Education and Workshops
AFS realizes the need to educate the community, caregivers, and health care professionals about Alzheimer’s disease.  Awareness and knowledge are accomplished through workshops/seminars, speaking engagements, participation in health fairs, talk television and radio shows and much more.  Any group can reserve a speaker by calling the AFS office.
  • Support Groups
Alzheimer’s Family Services offers monthly support groups in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties in Florida, and a quarterly support group in Escambia county, Alabama, for families affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.  Call the AFS office if respite care is needed in order for the caregiver to attend a support group meeting.

  • Senior Fairs and Health Fairs
Alzheimer’s Family Services feels awareness is a vital part of our objectives and one method used is participation in Senior and Health Fairs.  These booths are manned by knowledgeable volunteers and afford much information to persons who otherwise might not know where to obtain our services.
  • Volunteer Services
Volunteers determine the success and failure of Alzheimer’s Family Services.  Nothing is accomplished through this organization without the assistance of one or more volunteers.  To volunteer your time and talents, contact AFS at (850) 478-7790.

  • Newsletter
AFS stays in touch through its newsletter, The Caring Times.  This newsletter has a circulation of more than 1800 each month.  It contins current information on the disease, caregiver tips, and important dates.  If you or someone you know would benefit from receiving this newsletter, available by post mail or e-mail, please call the AFS office.

  • Lending Library
AFS has a lending library of books, periodicals, videos, and activities available to anyone who has need of it.  Books and other resources regarding Alzheimer’s and related memory disorders are welcomed donations to the library.  These resource donations may be made in memory or honor of someone.  Gifts will be acknowledged.

  • Civic Awareness
In our efforts to educate the public on Alzheimer’s disease and the devastation on caregivers as well as patients, we provide speakers for civic and community organizations.

  • Counseling and Referral Service
Counseling and Referral Services are a major function of AFS.  Calls and visits are received daily from persons seeking help with placement, financial or legal assistance, medical information, and support groups.  One-on-one counseling and group counseling are available upon request and at no cost.

  • Loan and Supply Closet
AFS maintains an inventory of non-medical equipment (shower chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, etc) for loan.  Bed and chair pads, incontinent briefs, and Ensure may also be available.  Contact the AFS office to borrow or donate such equipment.

  • The Caregiver’s Handbook
AFS provides the Caregiver’s Handbook at no cost upon request.  The handbook contains information about Alzheimer’s disease, caregiver tips, signs and symptoms, contact information, and resources.  The cost of producing the handbook is $5.  Donations to ensure future printings of the handbook are appreciated.

Alzheimer's Family Services conducts Memory Screenings at various locations throughout its service area.  Memory screenings are free of charge; an appointment is required.  Contact AFS at (850) 478-7790 to schedule your appointment.
